Crossfields Institute Level 5 Diploma in Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy: the LEAP Method
In Spring 2017, we launched the Level 5, OFQUAL Regulated Diploma. We created this in collaboration with Crossfields Institute, to bring professional standards into an emerging and as yet unregulated field. The qualification emphasises the development of maturity, self-management, authenticity and safe practice.
This qualification is the first to be specifically designed for qualified mental health professionals who wish to expand their area of expertise into Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy. It allows for in-depth, focused and accelerated learning for those who already have an established subject knowledge in the field of mental health.
The qualification promotes excellence in the field of EFP and consists of guided learning (taught Modules) and also independent study, total qualification time 370 hours.
Consists of 8 taught modules over split across 3 taught blocks with online learning through evenings and weekends, with a 6-10 month period of independent study, assignments, observational assessment, presentations, supervised practice, mentoring and independent learning between the blocks. The programme is designed for those who intend to pursue EFL (equine facilitated learning) as a career.
Training groups are kept small in order to facilitate a thorough and personal experience for each trainee.
Key to our approach at LEAP is the concept of an embodied model that allows each practitioner to adapt and develop the model according to their clients’ needs and their own strengths and talents as a practitioner. It is our experience that if a model is too strictly adhered to (if a model becomes a system), the individual needs of the client can be missed. Alongside teaching the model, we focus on developing each trainee’s facilitation skills and exploring what each individual might uniquely bring to the work.
